Before the intervention studies are carried out, the CTNS searches for scientific evidence to validate the biological efficacy of the functional food and its bioactive compounds.
Biological validation comprises different areas of experimentation that include assays with cell line models (in vitro) and with animal models (in vivo) to evaluate the efficacy of the bioactive ingredients.
- The CTNS has developed and optimized in-vitro models with various cell lines that provide a view of the effect of the bioactive ingredient at a molecular and cellular level. To complement these studies, we have a digestive model for analyzing the biotransformation of substances.
- We also perform in-vivo studies with various animal models in order to obtain data on tissues, organs and complex systems. These studies generate data about the mechanisms of action of the substances.
