The action of a bioactive ingredient is optimal if it reaches the place where it is effective in optimal concentrations for the required period of time.
This is called bioavailability. Data on bioavailability are necessary if the efficacy of functional foods is to be validated. The CTNS studies both in-vitro and in-vivo models to evaluate the bioavailability of the ingredients and measures the quantity and velocity necessary to achieve systemic circulation or reach the target.
