Bioavailability studies

Print

The action of a bioactive ingredient is optimal if it reaches the place where it is effective in optimal concentrations for the required period of time.

This is called bioavailability. Data on bioavailability are necessary if the efficacy of functional foods is to be validated. The CTNS studies both in-vitro and in-vivo models to evaluate the bioavailability of the ingredients and measures the quantity and velocity necessary to achieve systemic circulation or reach the target.

  • The CTNS has animal and cell models of hepatocytes, macrophages and adipocytes that are validated for the complete study of the bioavailability of bioactive substances.
  • We also have in-vitro models of liver, intestine and pancreas to simulate the human enterohepatic barrier and study the bioabsorption of bioactive substances.
